Split ends: why they happen and how to fix them

Why ends split

The end of the hair is the oldest and least protected part; the protective layer there has been thinned by years of washing, friction and heat. When that layer opens, the strand splits in two or into several branches. The most common causes:

• Friction: a rough towel, a cotton pillowcase, brushing wet hair.
