Brows

Round, oval, square, heart or long: each face has a brow shape that balances it. Here is how to find yours, how shaping and tinting get you there, and which mistakes to avoid.
The short answer: the right eyebrow shape balances your face. A round face looks best with a higher, slightly angled arch, a long face with flatter brows, and square and heart shaped faces with a soft arch. At B&B Elegance, brows are shaped along your natural arch. Shaping costs 7 € and tinting 8 €.
Tie your hair back and look in a mirror in daylight. Compare the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw, then the length of your face from hairline to chin.
If your face mixes two shapes, take the closer one as your starting point. The same logic applies to your haircut, as we explain in hairstyles for your face shape.
This is the shape we get asked about most, and the rule is simple: the brows should add a vertical line. A higher arch, with its peak a little past the middle of the eye, draws the eye upwards. The face looks longer and slimmer. Beauty guides in English and in German give the same advice: a lifted arch with a slight angle, rather than a fully rounded curve.
What to avoid is the half moon brow. It repeats the shape of the face and makes it look rounder. A medium to full thickness, with a straight start and a tail that tapers, usually works best. If your brows are naturally flat, the arch is lifted a little by removing hairs below the peak and filling the upper line with tint.
The oval face is the most flexible. A soft, medium arch suits it almost every time. Only a very high arch is risky: it stretches the face and gives a surprised look.
An angular jaw asks for brows that soften it. A curved, soft arch with medium to full thickness, because very thin brows look small next to a strong jaw. In practice it depends on how angular your jaw is and what arch you were born with.
With a wide forehead and a narrow chin, the goal is to calm the upper half of the face. A rounded arch, low to medium, and brows that are not too heavy.
Here the logic is the reverse of the round face. A long face needs a horizontal line. Flatter, almost straight brows with a very gentle arch make the face look wider. A high arch is the most common mistake on this shape.
For any face shape there is a simple pencil test. Hold a pencil upright from the side of your nose to the inner corner of your eye: that is where the brow starts. Angle it from the nose through the pupil: that is where the arch peaks. Then from the nose to the outer corner of the eye: that is where the tail ends. Your face shape then decides how high the arch goes.
At B&B Elegance, brows are shaped by Besire, who has more than 20 years in this work. She starts from the arch you were born with, because that is where the hairs grow and where a shape holds longest. The face shape rules give the direction, a little higher, a little flatter, a little softer, and your natural arch sets the limits.
Shaping removes the hairs that break the line, mostly under the arch and between the brows. Tinting fills the gaps and makes the fair hairs visible, and those are often the very hairs that carry the arch. The colour is matched to your hair and skin, so the brows never come out darker than the face.
How often to repeat the tint is covered separately in our guide how often to tint eyebrows. If you are also booking makeup for an event, mention it when you book, so the brows are done before the makeup starts.
Brow shaping costs 7 € and brow tinting 8 €, and both can be done in the same visit. If you are growing your brows out after old over plucking, shaping is done with patience and a plan. Every price is published on our services and prices page.
