Hair color for your skin tone

By Besire Selmancena, 20+ years of experience

The right color is not the trendy one, it is the one that brightens your face. The secret sits in your skin's undertone, warm or cool, and in the harmony with your eyes. Here is how to find yours.

The short answer: find your skin undertone and choose the color in the same direction. Skin with a warm undertone suits warm colors (honey, caramel, copper); skin with a cool undertone suits cool colors (ash, cool brown, cool blonde). Below is how to find yours in a minute.

The quick undertone test

Look at the veins on your wrist in natural light:

Color by skin and eyes

SkinSuits betterAvoid
Fair with a cool undertoneCool blonde, cool brownOrange and strong copper
Fair with a warm undertoneHoney, caramel, soft copperVery cool ash
Medium warmWarm brown, chocolate, caramelPlatinum blonde
DarkDeep brown, chestnut reflectionsVery light blonde in one step

The eyes help you fine-tune the finish: green or hazel eyes go beautifully with warm reflections, blue or gray eyes with cool shades.

Why a gorgeous photo sometimes comes out different

A color in a photo shows the wish, not the result. That color was done on different skin, eyes and hair, in a different light. Besire reads your undertone and tells you openly whether the color you want brightens or dulls your face, and how to reach the version that suits precisely you.

From the wish to the plan

When the color needs lifting, the technique changes: a balayage gives natural warmth around the face, while a full coloring gives a uniform tone. If you are hesitating, send a photo of your current hair and of the tone you want, and we plan the safe route together.
